Anti-Authoritarianism & Anti-Fascism ✊
- “The 14 Characteristics of Fascism” by Lawrence Britt (2003) — In the Spring of 2003, political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt wrote an article about fascism (“Fascism Anyone?,” Free Inquiry, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto, and Pinochet, Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism.
Digital Privacy 🕵️
- PRISM-Break.org — Opt out of global data surveillance programs like PRISM, XKeyscore, and Tempora.
- PrivacyGuides.org — A not-for-profit, volunteer-run project that hosts online communities and publishes news and recommendations surrounding privacy and security tools, services, and knowledge.
- Surveillance Self Defense — The EFF’s online guide to defending yourself and your friends from surveillance by using secure technology and developing careful practices.

Anti-Authoritarianism & Anti-Fascism ✊
- “The Authoritarian Regime Survival Guide” by Verfassungsblog (2017) — Published on social media in January 2017 in a series of improvised, spontaneous tweets, which reached 3 million views within one month. Their common element was their trademark signature, “With love, your Eastern European friends”, and the accompanying hashtag “#LearnFromEurope”.
- The Declaration of Independence (1776) — The birthing document of the United States of America. The founding fathers outline their grievances with the Royal Throne of England and King George III’s abuse of power, many of which grievances may strike resoundingly familiar with readers.
- “Don’t Be a Sucker!” (1943) — U.S. Department of War anti-fascist short propaganda film depicting the rise of Nazism in Germany and how political propaganda is similarly used in the United States to recruit Nazi sympathizers from the ranks of American racists.
- “The Hangman” (1964) — A parable about the consequences of being a bystander to evil, from a disturbing poem by Maurice Ogden, read by Herschel Bernardi.
Ethical Consumerism 🛒
- GoodsUniteUs.com — Helps you align your purchases with your politics by showing you the political donations of companies and brands.
- OpenSecrets.org — A research and government transparency group tracking money in politics and its effect on elections and policy, with a mission to track the flow of money in American politics and provide the data and analysis to strengthen democracy.
- “Donor Lookup” by OpenSecrets — Search for donors who contribute at least $200 to federal candidates and committees. Enter name, state, zip code, or employer to find records of receipts and contributions.
Outreach 🤝
- “New Study: 54% of American Adults Read Below 6th Grade-Levels” by HR News (2023) — A reminder to RFAN authors to keep things simple and not overcomplicate their messaging, in the spirit of maintaining a level of clear communication.
Voting ✍️
- Ballotpedia.org—Digital encyclopedia that covers American politics and elections at the federal, state, local, and territorial levels of government; aims to inform people about politics by providing accurate and objective information about politics at all levels of government.
- Vote.gov — An official website of the United States government where users can register to vote, update their registration, and learn about U.S. elections and their voting rights, along with how, when, and where to vote.
