On May 4, 1970, the Ohio National Guard killed four unarmed Kent State students protesting the Vietnam War. The government claimed they were forced to open fire because of a sniper attack, which was revealed to be a complete lie. The United States has a history of systemic suppression of dissent against peaceful protestors on university campuses.
